24th February The bad tree It declares that evil is in all men and it shows us that even the most estimated, for instance the King David committed evil acts even very evil. How can the truth of Scripture be contested if every day we see the same evil acts happening? And if men do evil, how can we deny that evil is in them? Since the murder of Abel until the murder of the Son of God, the Bible places under our eyes what men have done, their infamous actions and their crimes! Several think that these narratives should not be in God's book because they only wish to see good examples. However, these examples are godly distributed all over the place to continuously remind the reader what he can do. To judge the tree by it's fruit is always a true principle. When we see the fruit which human being is able to bring forth then it is impossible not to pronounce this judgement on him: the tree is bad. This is the lesson we learn when we read what the Bible says about evil. This lesson should have a double profit for us: it humbles man and obliges man to be genuine in front of God. |
