23rd April And the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12, 7 Life's breath -"He is at his end." - "We only have one life. " - "It was his time!" Often we hear this; is it correct? Did we live to well fill it, to accomplish our duties, to enjoy ourselves, to amuse ourselves and to suffer during some years and then suddenly disappear? Like a flower without fruit or a sowed grain which would not sprout? What an abnormality! The Creator decided that each grain should produce a new plant; and would he not have decided that the human being who thirsts for infinite would have an unending happy place in the next world? |
God withdraws man's breath and man dies. This is God's decree because of sin. The body returns to dust but the soul or spirit leaves it's mortal envelop and continues to exist.
Where does it continue to exist? Jesus Christ reveals it by speaking about two men (Luke 16, 19 - 31): one lives near to the other and they die in the same way; however their destinies are completely opposed: the first one goes to hell where he is in torment and the other one goes to a rest place with his Saviour. No crossing over from one place to the other is possible, there is no new "chance", no annihilation and no reincarnation.
This is the human being: two parts, a material part, the body and an immaterial part, the soul.
Our destiny for eternity depends on our choice on earth.
