13th May He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8, 32 The joy of giving The visitors of countries like Ex-Yugoslavia, Rumania or Albania will easily tell you: Go, visit these countries and live with the inhabitants for some days. You will never forget the misery there. Even closer to us a social worker in a French city will affirm: You cannot imagine the misery I see every day". Taking into consideration this poverty, for a lot us, it is abundance, and if we have to cut down, it is often because the doctor recommends us to supervise our cholesterol, our diabetes or our weight. God not only asks me to thank him for this abundance, but to share it with those who are less favoured. This manifestation of the Christian love is a privilege and can also be an opportunity to speak about the Saviour to those who, not only lack the essential materially, but who also lack true affection. Let us not only open our purse but also our heart. "Do not forget to do good and to share with others" (Hebrews 13, 16). This joy of giving, God who gave his Son experienced it himself. And he desires to share it with us. |
