For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8, 38 & 39

Getting familiarized with the idea of death

If we would draw near to him as children filled with love for him then the thought of being in his everlasting presence should be a source of joy.

The real reason why we are afraid of death is because we do not love God enough. The remedy is to get penetrated by the truths of the Gospel. Then we could say as Paul says: "I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far" (Philippians 1, 23).

Yes indeed the author could not forget the pain of separation from our close family members. The Lord understands this pain.

Three months before his painful end he wrote to his friend:

"I thank you for sympathizing with my sufferings which God lets me go through. He gaves me grace to be content with my situation. He calls me to glorify himself with my patience and my submission to his will. He gives me the necessary help and I have to be satisfied because my only wish is that God is glorified. Do not be afflicted of my situation and continue to help me by your prayers so that as my body deteriorates my inside is being renewed more and more."
