3rd November

In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. Hebrews 1, 1 & 2

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. Hebrews 2, 1

To listen or to hang up?

God desires to communicate with us

Once there was an american president who wanted to communicate with an inhabitant of Boston (USA) by telephone. This inhabitant hung up a few times without answering. He could not believe that the american president wanted to speak to him. Finally, the switchboard operator was able to convince this person to have a conversation.

Well, there is somebody who is more important than the boss of one of the biggest countries and this person calls each one of us. "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3, 20). He does not impose on us, he calls us. God has rights on his creature and wants to take ownership of it.

Man is free to choose, to listen, to obey or to disobey. "God speaks one, twice ... to turn man from wrongdoing and keep him from pride" (Job 33, 14 & 17), to turn man from his bad deeds, from his way of perdition to teach him success. Are we aware of this? Have we listened to his voice which is full of love and insistance? "I tell you, now is the time of God's favour, now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6, 2). God talks to us through the Bible. The Bible is his word. In the past he spoke through his prophets, then through his Son Jesus (Hebrews 1, 1). Nowadays he speaks to you in different ways. One of these ways is this Internet page. Those who do not listen to his voice in grace will hear it in judgement because "the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God" (John 5, 25).
