Honesty exam

1st February

When I was in secondary school there was a lot of cheeting. I will never forget the small speech of our maths teacher before handing out the papers: "Today, my friends you will have to exams: the first one is geometry and the other one is a honesty exam. I hope you will be successful in both. It is better for you not to be successful in geometry rather in the honesty exam. In your life you will have more occasions to practice the honesty principals than to use the theoremes of geometry."

In several ways we have to pass this honesty exam sooner or later. What do we do when in a shop the person at the cash desk gives us back to much money? "After all, it is her mistake and not ours." And when we fill in our tax declaration form do we not forget to mention anything on the form? "Not so sure, anyhow nobody will verify it."

My professor was right. The moral behaviour of a person is more important the the level of his knowledge or his income. However, this behaviour requires that we are true in front of God. We cannot cheat him and we should do our bookkeeping with him. This is the condition that God takes in charge our debt towards him thanks to the work of Jesus.
