13th February Man's misery and God's mercy First of all Christianity states that man is lost. The test which God made by using the law of Moses unequivocally proved the impossibility of the human being, whatever his advantages and privileges, to respect the commandments which are given to him. As this is clearly shown, Christianity reveals that God in his grace visits the lost human race. He sees the Gentiles who deeper and deeper get into ignorance and idolatry and who are degraded by the most disgraceful depravities. The Jews are more guilty because they were unfaithful to bigger privileges. All, Jews and Non-Jews show that human nature is fallen and desperately corrupted. However, God has compassion with these evil and miserable creatures. He only takes knowledge of the moral ugliness of men to testify his mercy towards man. He comes to earth by Jesus, he reveals his immense love to his creatures and he announces the deliverance which he offers them. The lost man can be saved and if God wants man to be conscient of his state of perdition, then it is because God has a Saviour who can be presented to man. Do you know the Saviour of men? He came from heaven, he lived a perfect life without sin on earth, he died on a cross, he died for you and for me. He is risen from the dead. Whoever believes in him has everlasting life. |
