12th June For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put do death in the body but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter 3, 18 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. Acts 3, 14 & 15 Truly, he was a righteous man The young boy Peter is in a history lesson. The teacher speaks about the matter of Dreyfus who was a French military officer at the time of the third republic of France. He became a victim of injustice and was condamned to forced work by false testimonies. However, this matter mobilised the public opinion; Zola pleaded for the innocent one and obtained a review of the process. A few years later the exile was put back into his functions. Peter is sadly reminded on another man who was unjustly accused and whom nobody defended: the Lord Jesus Christ. Although he worked for peace and for love he had several ennemies. He was surrended by conspiracy and false witnesses invented lies to accuse him because no true motives were found on him. When Judas was seized with remorse because he had betrayed innocent blood it was too late (Matthew 27, 4). Pilate asked following question three times: "What evil has he done? I don't find anything in him which deserves death" (Luke 23, 22). He wanted to release him, but he was discouraged because of the people's riot. The crucified brigand and the centurion recognized at the foot of the cross that "he truly was a righteous man" (Luke 23, 41 & 47). Let us know that this Righteous One has payed the price for our injustices with his life. Don't let us be part of them who despise such a big love which is still offered to us today. |
