13th June And a voice from heaven said: "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." Matthew 3, 17 & 17, 5 My beloved Son While Jesus was living on earth God twice announced: "This is my beloved son." The first time was at the riverside of Jordan when Jesus got baptized by John and the second time was on the mountain of transfiguration. God continually watches over the earth and sees everything which happens here. Since humanity carries on it's history he has seen sin which leaves it's footprint everywhere. Jesus is the only man who was obedient to God's will up to the point to give his life. He is the only one who received this godly approval: "With him I am well pleased." For the first time God's complete satisfaction was expressed in regard to a man. So the words which the angels had proclamed at the birth of Jeus were accomplished: "Peace to men on whom his favour rests." He who displayed a perfect life on earth was God's beloved Son. In his godly power he made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness" (Philippians 2, 7). He truly was a man and at the same time Son of God. Let us bow down before this testimony of God's love demonstrated in this one and only person: God's beloved Son who came to earth to save us because God loves us. Let us listen to him. |
