Ramses 2

10th July

By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh's daughter. He chose to be ill-treated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. Hebrews 11, 24 & 25

By faith Moses left Egypt, not fearing the king's anger; he persevered because he saw him wo is invisible. Hebrews 11, 27

Ramses II

More than three thousand years after his death his face still can be seen. There are only some dried out rests on a mummy in a museum in Cairo. He was famous among the Pharaohs of Egypt and a builder of great monuments. Although this man was honoured as a god he didn't seem satisfied. To appear even bigger he didn't hesitate to sign the works of his predecessors with his name.

It is possible that Ramses II was the Pharaoh who met Moses. How it is touching to think of this and to consider his mummy with its drawn and crumbled skin. Moses didn't do anything to preserve his own body. Nobody even knows where he is buried. On the other hand generations of believers have read his works, the first five books of the Bible.

The comparison between Ramses II and Moses: on one hand we find the builder of monuments and on the other hand the man who teaches the law of God. On one hand we find the power of man and on the other hand the power of faith. Moses could have stayed at the court of Pharaoh, but he left the honours of the world behind him to meet God and to serve his people. The honours of the world are often tied up with lies and injustice.

We Christians, are we still looking for the glory of the world or have we decided to listen to Jesus and to live in his company as we get attached to the true values which never pass by?
