a waterfall, a spring

9th July

God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5, 8

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. 1 John 3, 16

God's love

Its origin: is in his own heart. Only there God finds a reason for his love for us. He loves us not because we deserve it, but because he is love. To love is his nature (1 John 4, 8 & 16)

Its purpose: is you, I and all men even the most guilty. If God who is holy hates the sin he is also love and loves the sinner. He shows his grace to the sinner if he believes and repents.

Its degree: "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3, 16). God loves men. He maintains it and proves it. Sometimes we may hear thoughts like: if God loved his creatures why does he permit so much suffering and injustice? Suffering and injustice are the consequence of sin. We have to consider God's love in the perspective of eternity. If you want to learn more about what absolute, endless and God's love is, then just think about the cross and God giving his beloved Son for salvation of his ennemies.

God's love is an inexhaustable ocean. We need to draw from there and answer the invitation of the Lord Jesus: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink" (John 7, 37)
