The famous missionary, David Livingstone, who announced the Gospel in a lot of regions of Africa once talked to students at the university of Glasgow.

But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was delivered from the lion's mouth. 2 Timothy 4, 17

I am always with you

Tropical illnesses had made him thin and weakened him and his left arm was handicapped by an injury from a lion which crushed him. However, he was full of enthusiasm when speaking to his audience: "Do you want to know what carried me through these years passed with unfriendly tribes? It is the Lord's promise to them who belong to him which was proclaimed 19 centuries ago: I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28, 20).

This is the most powerful secret which gave him a superhuman strength when the difficulties galvanized him.

Is such an experience only for distinguished Christians? Do we need to go to a foreign country to experience this? No, the promise of the Lord Jesus to his disciples is for all who belong to him, at all times, everywhere and in all circumstances.

Let us seek the presence of Jesus as this missionary did. It is the origin of joy and of strength. The recipe is easy: the reading of God's word and prayer. To enable the Lord to reveal himself to us, we need to listen to him, to be in peace with him and wish to obey him.
