All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away. Isaiah 64, 6

This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Romans 3, 22 - 24

Is it sufficient to be genuine?

In our western countries more and more fanaticism is condemned and toleration is preached. We easily repeat following formula: "All religions have a value, you only need to be genuine."

None of the religions can open the door to heaven.

Neither a doctrine, nor religious practices nor an irreproachable life according to other people can save us.

At the time of Jesus there was a young man whose moral qualities really were exceptional. His outer life was without any reproach. He did not do wrong to anybody. Can we say the same? He had kept the commandments of God since his childhood. Have we done it? Nevertheless, he was restless about salvation of his soul. He asked Jesus: "What do I have to do to get everlasting life?"

Probably you have recognized the young man of whom scripture is speaking (Mark 10, 17 - 27). He was held back by his wealth and refused to follow Jesus. He went away very sad.

What we need is a Saviour, we need a person. This person is "Jesus Christ". He came into the world to save sinners (1 Timothy 1, 15). Salvation is found in no-one else (Acts 4, 12).
