14th November I rejoice greatly in the Lord that at last you have renewed your concern for me. Philippians 4, 11 But godliness with contentment is a great gain. 1 Timothy 6, 6 Be happy Even those who have everything they could wish for, the affluents and those who seem to have everything are not satisfied deep within themselves. It is obvious that the human heart stays empty even in abundance because the essential which is lacking is the room which God should have in the heart. Besides, the contrast is striking; when somebody is happy to know God he feels a contentment which man without God can neither know nor understand. The apostle Paul mentions this contentment in several of his letters. Everything changes when God fills the heart of somebody, because he knows that everything which concerns him, all his happy or worrying circumstances are not the goal for him but they are allowed by God and work for the good (Romans 8, 28). Somebody who knows God as a Father through Christ has a joy and peace which always can make him content. The world and it's pleasures don't bring anything lasting; these things are as the prophet says: "broken cisterns that cannot hold water" (Jeremiah 2, 13). |
You who are thirsty for a lasting source of contentment come and find it in God.
