25th November People are afraid We are afraid of wars. The century has past and we have seen more than one spark off to satisfy the ambition on one man who plunged millions of human beings into misery and ruin. The more we profit of earth's goods the more we have reasons to fear that there will be a lack of them. We are afraid of the fearsome consequences of inventions and discoveries. Science, which is the distributor of undeniable benefits generates even more misdeeds. What will rise tomorrow after explosives, chemical weapons and the atomic bomb? Is civilization itself not slipping into a pit? We are afraid when we see material and intellectual progress of humanity on one hand and on the other hand we see the moral state regressing, crimes multiplying and the authority which is powerless to dam up the waves. Where are we going to? The Bible declares that we are going towards God's judgment. And everybody should fear this the most. However, God has given the means to man to shelter himself from God's anger; he invites us to trust in his Son Jesus Christ. In the middle of this state of things, the believer feels that peace and hope are growing in his heart: he knows him who has risen, him who has conquered all temptations, Satan, the world and death. Christ is the great conqueror. |
