28th April The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold. I rejoice in your promise like one who finds great spoil. Psalm 119, 72 & 162 Discover treasures The possibility of discovering heaps of gold pieces led adventurers to rake the bottom of the seas. Some had success like Mel Fisher who spent 23 years of his life by looking for swallowed up treasures. He finally discovered the wreck of the Spanish ship "Nuestra Senora of Maravilla" which was full with gold. He said: "Once you have seen the bottom of the ocean full of gold you will never forget it." First of all his divers found a gold necklace and then gold and silver pieces and gold bullions with a value of millions of dollars. In addition to the riches and the archaeological value of this gold this man had a great personal satisfaction. However, there are treasures which are not comparable in their value and which are at everybody's disposal: the Bible's riches. The author of Psalm 119 speaks about them all through it's 176 verses. The Bible is precious because it explains the way of how forgiveness for sins, how peace with God and how the true sense of life can be found. In God's word we learn how to prepare ourselves for the life after this earthly life, by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. God's word is at everybody's disposal and has a much bigger value than all of the buried treasures. Let us use our energy to discover these riches. |
