5th June Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3, 18 God's window God has chosen the descendants of Israel so that, by them, the other nations will get to know and respect him. Through material prosperity and good discipline of people who obey God's law and his commandments, all its neighbors would have understood that God of this nation as an example was truly a powerful, wise and good God. Unfortunately, instead of being attached to the Lord who had made them leave Egypt to live in the so beautiful country of Canaan, the Isralites disobeyed and turned towards other Gods. After innumerable warnings, God saw himself forced to punish them by successive judgements. Today it is the Christians' job to be the window of God on earth, not through lifting off the rest of men by a bright material prosperity or a remarkable organization, but by practicing real love. Our contemporaries should distinguish this love by seeing the relations of the Christians between each other. Jesus said: " By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13, 35). As it is written we should practice a love not only in words, but also with actions and in truth. (1 John 3, 18). |
