Leviticus 19, 31 Occultism A weekly newspaper tells us that around 27 000 French people consult an astrologer every day. It is certain that since beginning people have always looked for answers concerning life mysteries in occultism. When they are in distress they also look for answers in occultism. Since a few decennies however, a lot of people have abandoned faith in God. Because of this they find themselves in a deep spiritual emptiness even if they do not admit it. They try to fill this emptiness to reduce their anguish when they have to take important decisions. They also question about their future. Astrologers profit of the credulity of crowds.

What does the Bible say about these practices? It forbids them by very severe words: "Let no-one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daugther in the fire, who practises divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord, and because of these detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you (Deuteronomy 18, 10-12).

Very often these consultations raise deceit and only exploit the naïvety of people. In some cases however, mediums have forbidden contact with satanic spirits. Let us flee from these practices which God disapproves. There we will not find anything which could reassure us for the future. We can only find reassuring in the Word of God. He alone is God of truth, of love and Saviour!
