Where are the Bibles?

In several countries where religious freedom recently did not exist, the Bible was - and sometimes still is a rare book. There is an example of a community with few hundred Christians, but only the pastor had his own Bible.

On the contrary we find houses in our neighbourhood where there are surely 5 or 6 Bibles. Where are they? One of them may be in the attic, another one may be in a cupboard; the others ... you better not ask, we do not remember where we have put them.

- However, one needs to find a Bible to go to church on Sunday?
- Dear Sir, we don't go to church; Sunday is the only day when we can sleep late.
- However, when you have a free moment, or in the evening when the family is together, do you never read God's word?
- No, we watch television.
The Bible is in the house, but nobody opens it. Several times a day one takes his purse into his hands to fill it or to empty it, but never takes the Bible into his hands.

However, people will leave their money, their fields, their houses ... and they will have neglected the Word which stays eternally.

It is not the possession of a Bible which saves, but to believe in it's contents.
