18th August Man is created in God's image All speculations about the origins of humanity are swept away since the first page of the Bible. The Bible declares without any possible discussion that we are God's creatures, who directly come from his essence, who are created in his image and who are fruit of his deliberate will. God himself judges his creation by saying that it is entirely and perfectly completed: Genesis 1, 31 says: very good. Very good? Sorrows, tears, miseries, violences, illness and death are everywhere on earth and this seems to contradict this appreciation. How could these pains be introduced in our world? Although God had warned man about the consequences of his disobedience, man misuses his freedom. A crucial event results in time and space: sin enters the world and from then on the law of sin became effective. "The wages of sin is death." This way of death inexorably ends in everlasting perdition after our life on earth. However, God does not want us to be lost. He provided a way out which leads to everlasting life. And God gives good news to all men: "I love you, I have a plan for you, I invite you to get to know me personally. Appropriate yourself with salvation which I offer to you. This is a perfect and free of charge salvation offered by the deed of my Son on the cross. |
