Free of charge

On the other hand there is hardly anything that you can get for money including satisfaction of the lowest covetousness. Everything has a fixed price. Even man's life is calculated by the scale of insurance firms.

However, there are goods which stay outside valuation. With money you can buy a house but not a happy home; a life insurance but nothing against fear of death; tranquillizers but not inner peace; comfort but not happiness; a prosecutor but not a Saviour; a place in the cemetery but not a place in heaven. Only perishable goods can be obtained in exchange to perishable means of payment. The apostle James writes in his letter: "Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded." However, do you know that if you cannot buy real and lasting values you can receive them free of charge? Salvation of the soul, forgiveness of sins, peace with God and everlasting life are offered to you without a price whether you are rich or poor. God who is in possession of the skies and the earth doesn't need your money. On the other hand he wants you to recognize that you are completely destitute and that you owe him everything.
