24th October Yet God has not let himself without testimony. Acts 14, 15 & 17 (Jesus says:) I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. John 15, 15 Do you know God? In this town with manifold treasures somebody said that is easier to meet a god there than a man. All kinds of divinities are worshipped there and the apostle Paul even found an alter with following inscription: "To an unknown god" (Acts 17, 23). But one didn't know the one true God! For how many of our contemporaries, maybe for you, is God still an unknown God! Nevertheless he took care to reveal himself to his creatures: first through the universe which surrounds us. "His eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse" (Romans 1, 20). Thousand marvels speak to us of the wisdom of the almighty Creator. God also made himself known by talking to our moral conscience: his word, the Bible, presents man in front of the perfection and absolute righteousness of his author. However, he is especially the God of grace and forgiveness who made himself known by giving his only Son, Jesus Christ for justification of all those who believe (Romans 4, 24 & 25 ; 5, 1). |
