31st October But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20, 31 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another. John 1, 16 Jesus is the answer to all my expectations The Gospel not only brings incomparable encouragements when everything goes well but also during periods of tests and distress. Jesus promises them who are unsatisfied and disappointed: "But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst" (John 4, 14). He presents himself as being bread of life to them who are hungry for truth. "Whoever follows me (said in another way: who obeys me) will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (John 8, 12). He assures them who are unprotected and feel insecurity and fear that he is the good shepherd. He says that "no-one can snatch those whom he has saved and who belong to him out of his hand" (John 10, 28). |
Jesus tells them who are looking for the sense of life and who wish to find God: "I am the way, the truth and the life" (John 14, 6).
He reminds them who are crying because they have lost a close family member: "I am the resurrection and life. He who believes in me will never die" (John 11, 25).
He promises them who feel alone: "I am with you always" (Matthew 28, 20).
However, the first step towards him is to receive him as a Saviour.
