Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. Psalm 147, 5

Christmas

He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Luke 1, 32

Our Lord is great!

Even if he was born in a cowshed he is great by his birth. He is born into the family of king David and he is applauded by the angels and worshipped by the magus.

He is great in his childhood: he grows in wisdom and in stature, he is pleasant to God and to men.

When he is a teenager he is great: when he is 12 he sits among the Jewish masters, listens to them and answers their questions with intelligence. He knows how to be occupied with the concerns of his heavenly Father and he stays submitted to his parents.

At the beginning of his ministry he is great: when John baptizes him in the Jordan and when the Father asserts his glory: "This is my beloved Son", he is great when he restores the Word of God worthy of honour and when he completely fulfills it; he is great when he defeats the devil by this word (Matthew 3, 17 & 4, 1 - 10).

He is great when he orders the wind and the sea, when he satisfies the hungry crowds with bread, when he heals the ill and when he raises people from the dead.

He is great in his teaching which is full of authority and wisdom and he is great on the mountain of transfiguration.

He is also great in his humiliation, his gentleness, his words of grace, his humility and his love towards the weak and the oppressed.

He is great in his victory over death, great in his powerful resurrection and great in his ascension.

"O Lord my God, you are very great!" (Psalm 104, 1)
