Prepare to meet your God! Amos 4, 12
Man is torn from the security of his tent and marched off to the king of terrors. Submit to God and be at peace with him. Job 18, 14 & 22, 21
The hearse and the hitchhikers
In a small town in France the hearce returns from the cemetery. Two young people ask the driver by joking: "Do you some room?" The driver answers: "Your time will come; don't show off. I have buried people who were better than you."
Death is like an unexpected visitor. It disturbs man who does good business, a mother who is bringing up her children, a young man in his projects and the old man who is strong enough to still do something. We well know that death is at the end of the road as if it would wait for our crossing. The question is: "Are we prepared to meet death?"
The prophet Amos (4, 12) asks the question more precise: "Prepare to meet your God!" This is how we should consider death.
There are two ways to die: with our sins, if before we have not brought them to God by a genuine confession and believing in the sacrifice of Jesus; then salvation is not possible anymore, but the expectation of a certain judgement. The second way to die is: we have recognized that we are guilty in front of God and we have accepted Jesus as our personal Saviour. If we die in this way we are sure to have everlasting happiness.
Are you prepared to meet God, this God who loves you?
