He (the light) was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. John 1, 10 & 11

25th December Not known and not received Today's verse speaks about the true light which came into the world to illuminate men. The beginning of John's Gospel speaks about a godly person, everlasting and distinct. It "came into the world." The Son of God became man; God lived among his creatures. Him by whom "the world" was made, found himself in this world, the place where men stay. "The world did not receive him." This is the night and the deep ignorance where the world is. Man is so proud to make the world according to his image; a world full of sin and organized by creatures who moved away from their Creator! This Creator's goodness and power are unappreciated by them whom he comes to visit. It is the blindness of human intelligence. What are the words used after? "He came to his own!" However, those who he accepts to call them "his own" do not want him. He who is a true man was not received by the human family. "Who is this one? Where does he come from? Remove, remove, crucify him, crucify him!" He was put to death. Here is all humanity's shame: "His own did not receive him." This is the demonstration of man's heart and his hatred against God. What is the reason of this hatred? The moral perfection of Jesus contrasted to much with the pride and evilness of the religious chiefs and it blamed them. |
