Behaviour of running away

Why do so many people reject instinctively the idea of God? Is the reason not fearing to meet him, being conscient that they are in a state which is incompatible with the presence of a holy God? So, rather than assuming the situation, they run away; they prefer to eliminate God out of their life by denying all testimonies which prove God's existence. They move this thought aside, try to forget it and try to amuse themselves in any possible way.

However, the fear of meeting God is based on a serious misunderstanding.

The Bible says that one day God will be the judge of what every human being will have said, done or thought, but it also declares that most of all God is a God of mercy and forgiveness. He did not stay in heaven without being interested in the state of man and waiting for the moment of the final judgment. On the contrary, he sent his Son Jesus Christ to earth to deliver his creatures from their chains of misery and of slavery. Jesus did not come as a process server to seize goods but to pay the debt which man has run into by disobeying his Creator. Christ has completely paid this debt by his death on the cross. The only debt which is left towards God is to be thankful for the forgiveness he gives us free of charge in Jesus Christ.
