On one hand there is Barabbas a murderer who expects his execution in prison and on the other hand there is Christ, the Son of God who came to save men. The choice was between the two.

A disastrous choice

One is taken away to punishment and the other one can enjoy freedom without having a condition for his future behaviour. Pilate, the governor, speaks to the crowd and asks them: "Which of the two do you want me to release to you, Barabbas or Jesus who is called Christ?" They all answered: "Barabbas". In order to clear up any misunderstandings Pilate adds: "What shall I do then with Jesus who is called Christ?" They all said: "Crucify him!" Pilate takes water, washes his hands in front of the crowd and declares: "I am innocent of this man's blood; it is your responsibility." All the people answer with this frightning word: "Let his blood be on us and on our children!" (Matthew 27, 21 - 25) They rejected his love and now they make fun of his judgement.

The decision is taken: Barabbas is immediately released and before the sun goes down the body of Jesus is put into the tomb of Joseph of Arimathea. Jesus is crucified among two brigands. However, God will intervene. On the third day Jesus is resurrected and he presents himself among his disciples who are gathered together.
