Rich without knowing it

At the time of recession in the United States there was a certain Mr. Yates who was in possession of a huge wide piece of land in the west of Texas. He breeded sheep. He lived poorly and had to struggle to feed his family. One day a petrol company spoke to him: "We think that there is petrol in your land. Do you permit us to drill a hole?" Mr. Yates thought that he could not loose anything and he gave permission. The company started to drill. At a weak deepness it arrived at the most important oilfield of the north of America. This oilfield could produce more than 80'000 barrels of petrol a day! From one day to another Mr. Yates became a multi-millionaire. The petrol had always been there but he did not know anything.

Mr. Yates makes us think of a lot of people who have a Bible at home but who never have read it. Is it because secretly they are afraid of what it could tell them? Are they afraid of it's requirements, of it's change in their lives? Ah! If only we could appreciate the great riches this books conceals! Jesus said: "Your word is the truth" (John 17, 17). Everlasting life is found in the Bible (John 5, 39). It is a unique book with it's message of forgiveness and salvation, it is a book which changes and fills the heart, and all it's prophecies are fulfilled.
