10th April This is what the Lord says: "You have abandoned my; therefore I now abandon you to Shishak." The leaders of Israel and the king humbled themselves and said: "The Lord is just" When the Lord saw that they humbled themselves the Lord said: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not destroy them but will soon give them deliverance." 2 Chronicles 12, 5 - 7 Saved from under the bombs A young German student had heard the Gospel more than once but her heart stayed closed. She wanted to live her life and this is what she did until the terrible day when Hamburg was bombed during the last world war. The town was turned into a furnace within a few hours. In her distracted escape the young girl found shelter with other people in a Lutherian church in a near village. These poor people who had lost everything cried and moaned. The pastor came and visited them, he listened to their complaints and understood their distress. After he asked them to be silent: "my dear friends by passing among you I have heard among your complaints which I understand a sentence which I would like to speak about to you. Somebody said: God has abandoned us. This is not true. You are mistaken. Here is the truth: it is we who have abandoned God!" |
When this episode was told 50 years later the lady who had experienced it added: "This is all I remembered of the pastor's words. However, this sentence was like an arrow which touched my heart. Over the crash of the bombs God's voice was talking to me and maybe it would have been for the last time. I answered his call and I have never left him".
