Am I sure of this?

28th May

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no-one can boast. Ephesians 2, 8 & 9

Indefinite confidence or sure hope?

"I live honestly, I do the good which is in my range, I avoid doing bad to those who surround me, and, if I sinned, I ask the good God to forgive me. I can thus hope that he will receive me in his paradise."

In other words, you want to buy heaven by your good works and bow down at the justice of God. The problem is that you will never know if you arrived there. Your hope for heaven stays on a moving ground, on the sand of your impressions and your thoughts.

No, dear friend, you need something else than an indefinite confidence in the mercy of God; something else than the most strict morality and honesty; something else than a good polished Christianity to have a sure hope to go to heaven.

What is thus necessary? Above all, it is necessary to listen to what the Bible says, and then to submit to it. Thus you will find the solid base of a hope which does not deceive, but which leads to a living reality, and one can surely possess it from now on.

Listen to the declarations of the Word of God, these scriptures, inter alia, quoted at the head of this Internet page, and you will have interior peace.
