reading of the Bible, the Word of God

30th March

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things. Colossians 3, 1 & 2

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Mark 1, 35

Our priorities

Everything is thrown down, time is so short and life is so hectic. The diaries are so full that the risk is big for a Christian to neglect the reading of the Bible and prayer. In the morning we stress to arrive at work on time and in the evening we are tired! It can happen that weeks can go past without a real contact with the Lord.

What is our priority in the morning?

If the beginning of our days is devoted to God then the following hours will probably also be devoted to him. However, if we let this privileged moment go past then the whole day risks to be a loss for the Lord. Let us not look for excuses but let us get our priorities into order and then we will be able to face the day in peace and in victory of faith.

When we neglect the reading of the Word of God we feel an emptiness. Maybe we will try to fill it by things which the world offers us but this does not work out. Let us put our trust in God who has put apart something better for us: the joy of Jesus' presence. Let us take the time to read the Bible and pray. Let us look for Jesus. As he also is looking for us it is impossible for us not to meet him.

Prayer is more than an activity it is an attitude. It expresses our relationship with God, a relationship of trust and love. One Christian once said: "One moment spent in prayer with God eclipses the delights and the joys of this earth." Is this our experience?
