Jesus died on the cross

3rd April

Many are those who are my vigorous ennemies; those who hate me without reason are numerous. Those who repay my good with evil slander me when I pursue what is good. O Lord, do not forsake me; be not far from me, O my God. Psalm 38, 19 - 21

At the cross man is seen in the different and most various social conditions; Jew or Heathen, a barbarian or a civilized, occupying a civil or a clerical position, privileged or underprivileged, in all these varieties man plays an unworthy role.

Pilate, the Roman is on the seat of civil authority. However, where we should see righteousness we see misuse of power. He sentences him who he had acknowledged as "righteous" and of whom he said: "I do not find any crime in him." The soldiers who serve Pilate share and even exaggerate his iniquity.

The scribes and the jewish priests look for false testimonies. The crowd which surrounds them has the same feeling as them. They raise their voice against him, who during all his days of ministery only did good to them.

Those who pass by on the road insult him, they give free rein to their hatred. The disciples who were so near to him and so privileged slackly abandon their Lord at time of danger. He had asked some of them to watch with him.

Finally, Satan appears in this final drama. He betrays and then he destroys. Judas, his captive becomes his victim; he kills him by the trap which he had set him.
