a waterfall: pure water

8th June

Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false. He will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God his Saviour. Psalm 24, 3 - 5

Blessed are the pure in heart

We get used to seeing good-looking people through advertising. Some faces and some smilings seam to be transparent of purety. However, when we study the life of stars we are often disappointed. Money nearly rules everything and spreads jealousy, intrigues and lies. Appearance alone is important.

However, for God the contrary is important. He does not look at the appearance but he looks at our heart, our inmost being. He knows our mobiles which make us handle. This is why Jesus says: "Blessed are the pure in heart." He insists on what is inside and moral. Therefore, only faith in the Lord Jesus can purify our hearts (Acts 15, 9). Faith changes our motivations and leads us to seeking for purety of heart by prayer in daily life. The author of Psalm 139 says: "Search me, O God, and know my heart."

How often do we hide our real thoughts in protecting ourselves behind a certain appearance! Jesus is the only one who had a perfect pure heart, he was devoid of every deceit. He encourages us to walk in that way. Purety in heart makes us simple and frees us in our relations with God and the others.

One day the whole world will see Jesus reign, whether it wants to or not. In the meantime those who are pure in heart gaze at him with their eyes of faith.
