People will be lovers of themselves... 2 Timothy 3, 2

Me and my requirements

"Me" is a small word with two letters, but it represents a lot and it is fixed on three pillars which are called selfishness, pride and the own will. The me of others is easy to identify and we willingly sentence it. As Christians we first of all should learn to recognize it, when it appears and refuse it's requirements so that it surrenders to the Lord Jesus Christ, to his love and to his rights.

The moral portrait of man in the last time is traced by the apostle Paul with a screaming truth in 2 Timothy 3, 2 - 7. The first reference mentioned is selfishness which is the source of all sad tendencies which follow, such as avarice, boastfulness etc.

How often is it humiliating for Christians to show this dreadful selfishness instead of the real godly love. Selfishness only thinks on itself and doesn't wait for an answer or compensation from the others! The Bible never mentions that I can demand love from my neighbour: on the other hand it urges me to show him love myself. Love serves the others whereas selfishness wants to be served.

On the contrary, in Jesus we don't find any act or word dictated by selfishness. In him there was no room for me. The only effective remedy against my selfishness is to see Jesus living and to imitate him.
