I have something to tell you

13th September

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. Acts 10, 38

Simon, I have to tell you something!

In Luke chapter 7, verses 36 to 50 we read that Jesus is invited to a Pharisee. Jesus knew that this welcome had something conventional and maybe hypocritical with the thought to catch him out.

He goest to the table. Here a woman from town who is known for her upset life comes from behind, covers the feet of Jesus with tears, kisses and perfume. The Pharisee says to himself: "If he is the prophet he would know who and what this woman is who touches him."

Jesus reads the hearts. In silence he accepts the genuine repentance of this woman but he cannot stay dumb towards the pride of the Pharisee. However, he speaks to him tactfully by calling him by his name: "Simon, I have something to tell you!" He answers with an alert attention : "Master, tell me."

In front of everybody Jesus shows his sadness by facing the carelessness of his host in regard to himself, but Jesus also shows his joy by bringing salvation to a repentant soul.

Dear readers, Jesus knows everybody by his name: he discerns all our thoughts, he loves us and wants our real happiness. He speaks to you and to me with gentleness: "I have to tell you something." Let us answer him by wishing to listen: "Master, tell it."
