Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64, 8

Free, hence responsible

God created man in his image, in his likeness, this means with the same abilities: those to love, to think, to reason, to want or to refuse etc. However, he did not want to create man like a programmed robot, unable to decide himself or like a puppet which is a prisoner in it's strings. God created man in his image, in his likeness, hence free. However freedom implies responsibility. Human being is not like an animal which is submitted to irrational impulses; therefore, he is obliged to consciously obey his Creator. In the earthly paradise we find the proof where this obedience was tested, when Adam infringed the unique defense which was made for him.

Sin, misery, suffering and death are the tragic consequences for his whole race. However, glory to God! The gospel does not stop here. Let us listen to this good news: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6, 23).

God did not try to improve the human race, he let a new man appear. Jesus Christ came to earth to start man's history again. He offered God a perfect life without sin. He was obedient until death on the cross (Philippians 2, 8). On the cross he undergoes punishment instead of us, so that we can be saved by believing in his sacrifice.
