Berlin wall

9th November

This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men. 1 Timothy 2, 3 - 6

The fall of a wall

Berlin wall

On 9th November 1989 the famous Berlin wall was broken down. Through this event millions of Germans could finally find the way of freedom again.

This makes us think on an even more important event. Nearly 2000 years ago another symbolic wall "the dividing wall of hostility" (Ephesians 2, 14) was destroyed. It was God himself who had established this wall in the past to separate his people Israel from all the other nations. However, from then on there is no more separation between Jews and Non-Jews. Those who were excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world have been brought near through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2, 12 & 13). Jesus came and preached the good news of peace to them who were far away. Salvation is offered to everybody without distinction of race.

All the believers can approach God. Their origine doesn't matter. We can approach to him in more freedom than the Jewish priests could do it. The curtain which prohibited the approach to the most holy place was torn in the middle (Luke 23, 45) from top to bottom (Mark 15, 38). The most holy place was a secret part of the temple. In the past one could find God in the most holy place. Through the work of Christ and by faith we can penetrate in the sanctuary and worship God for what he is and praise him for what he has done for us (Hebrews 10, 19 & 20).
